# Security

# Security Guidelines

<Info>
  Security is a top priority for AgentArea. This guide covers security best practices, configuration recommendations, and how to deploy AgentArea securely in production environments.
</Info>

## 🔒 Security Overview

AgentArea implements defense-in-depth security principles:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Authentication & Authorization" icon="key">
    * JWT-based authentication
    * Role-based access control (RBAC)
    * API key management
    * Session management
  </Card>

  <Card title="Infrastructure Security" icon="shield">
    * Container isolation
    * Network segmentation
    * Secrets management
    * Audit logging
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## 🔐 Authentication & Authorization

### JWT Authentication

AgentArea uses JSON Web Tokens for secure authentication:

```python theme={null}
# Example: Configuring JWT settings
SECURITY_SETTINGS = {
    "jwt_secret_key": "your-256-bit-secret-key",
    "jwt_algorithm": "HS256",
    "jwt_expiry_hours": 24,
    "jwt_refresh_days": 7
}
```

<Warning>
  **Critical**: Always use a strong, randomly generated secret key in production. Never commit secrets to version control.
</Warning>

### Role-Based Access Control

Configure user roles and permissions:

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="User Roles">
    ```yaml theme={null}
    roles:
      admin:
        permissions: ["*"]
        description: "Full system access"
      developer:
        permissions:
          - "agents:create"
          - "agents:read"
          - "agents:update"
          - "agents:delete"
          - "conversations:read"
        description: "Agent development and management"
      viewer:
        permissions:
          - "agents:read"
          - "conversations:read"
        description: "Read-only access"
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="API Key Management">
    ```bash theme={null}
    # Create API key with specific permissions
    curl -X POST http://localhost:8000/v1/auth/api-keys \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $JWT_TOKEN" \
      -d '{
        "name": "production-service",
        "permissions": ["agents:read", "conversations:create"],
        "expires_in_days": 90
      }'
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## 🔧 Secure Configuration

### Environment Variables

Never store sensitive data in configuration files:

```bash theme={null}
# Required security environment variables
export JWT_SECRET_KEY="your-long-random-secret-key"
export DATABASE_URL="postgresql://user:pass@host:5432/db"
export REDIS_URL="redis://localhost:6379"
export MCP_MANAGER_API_KEY="your-mcp-manager-key"
# Optional security settings
export CORS_ALLOWED_ORIGINS="https://yourdomain.com"
export API_RATE_LIMIT="100/hour"
export SESSION_TIMEOUT_MINUTES=30
```

### Database Security

<Accordion>
  <AccordionItem title="Connection Security">
    ```yaml theme={null}
    database:
      # Use SSL/TLS for database connections
      ssl_mode: "require"
      ssl_cert: "/path/to/client-cert.pem"
      ssl_key: "/path/to/client-key.pem"
      ssl_ca: "/path/to/ca-cert.pem"
      # Connection pooling limits
      max_connections: 20
      min_connections: 5
      # Enable query logging for audits
      log_queries: true
      log_level: "INFO"
    ```
  </AccordionItem>

  <AccordionItem title="Data Encryption">
    ```python theme={null}
    # Enable encryption at rest for sensitive fields
    from cryptography.fernet import Fernet
    class AgentConfig:
        # Encrypt sensitive configuration data
        api_keys = EncryptedField()
        credentials = EncryptedField()
        private_data = EncryptedField()
    ```
  </AccordionItem>
</Accordion>

### Network Security

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Firewall Rules" icon="shield">
    ```bash theme={null}
    # Only allow necessary ports
    # 80/443: HTTP/HTTPS traffic
    # 8000: AgentArea API (internal)
    # 5432: PostgreSQL (internal)
    # 6379: Redis (internal)
    ```
  </Card>

  <Card title="TLS Configuration" icon="lock">
    ```yaml theme={null}
    # Traefik TLS configuration
    tls:
      minimum_version: "1.2"
      cipher_suites:
        - "TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384"
        - "TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256"
    ```
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## 🐳 Container Security

### Docker Security Best Practices

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Base Image Security">
    ```dockerfile theme={null}
    # Use minimal, security-focused base images
    FROM python:3.11-slim-bullseye
    # Run as non-root user
    RUN adduser --disabled-password --gecos '' agentarea
    USER agentarea
    # Set security-focused labels
    LABEL maintainer="security@agentarea.ai"
    LABEL security.scan="enabled"
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Runtime Security">
    ```yaml theme={null}
    # docker-compose.yml security settings
    services:
      agentarea-api:
        security_opt:
          - no-new-privileges:true
        read_only: true
        tmpfs:
          - /tmp
        cap_drop:
          - ALL
        cap_add:
          - NET_BIND_SERVICE
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

### Secrets Management

<Warning>
  Never include secrets in Docker images or environment files committed to version control.
</Warning>

```yaml theme={null}
# Use Docker secrets or external secret management
secrets:
  jwt_secret:
    external: true
  db_password:
    external: true
services:
  api:
    secrets:
      - jwt_secret
      - db_password
```

## 🔍 Security Monitoring & Logging

### Audit Logging

Enable comprehensive audit logging:

```python theme={null}
# Security events to log
SECURITY_LOG_EVENTS = [
    "user_login",
    "user_logout",
    "api_key_created",
    "api_key_deleted",
    "agent_created",
    "agent_deleted",
    "permission_changed",
    "failed_authentication",
    "rate_limit_exceeded"
]
```

### Security Metrics

Monitor these security-related metrics:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Authentication Metrics" icon="key">
    * Failed login attempts
    * API key usage patterns
    * Session duration and timeouts
    * Permission denial events
  </Card>

  <Card title="System Metrics" icon="activity">
    * Resource usage anomalies
    * Network connection patterns
    * Container restart events
    * Database access patterns
  </Card>
</CardGroup>
